Now I can take videos of my stationary cars :)

What in the holy hell is a (dramtic air quotes) "tax rebate"?
Never seen one of thems.
Oh and congrats, cool stuff.

I thought they were mythical until I got the letter in the post :)

Both are solid products, well done!

Thanks. We'll see what I can make of them :)

That's one fuzzy muff.

I'm curious about your wind guard/dead cat/fuzzy thing. Is it a Red Head, or is it some other make?

No idea. It's just a generic dead cat from eBay I think.
By the looks of things it's made by Windcut here in the UK. I know it's specific to the Zoom H1 though.

Does the Handy Recorder also function as one of these?
Seriously nice setup, though.

Nice. I tried making my own, but it only worked so-so.

Do you have a Zoom as well? If so, what's the sound quality like? I've read a lot of reviews, but the sound is a big part of what I like in cars so I'd like it to be good if possible.

I've pressed all the buttons and none of them seem to activate the circular saw. Maybe it's a secret combination.
Thanks :) we'll see what I can make of it in a bit. Unfortunately, the mounts I ordered came from outside the EU (they were advertised as inside) and I have to pay customs charges before they're redeliver them to me. Nothing major, but it means I can't go and play with them now.

I do have one. I haven't done much with audio recording before, but it does seem to work a heck of a lot better than my DSLR's built-in mic. (It's a Nikon D300s). Here's a few samples I took:

One of the biggest challenges I find is trying to get the levels right. I monitor the audio on the line out on a pair of cheap Sony MDR-150 headphones. I find it difficult to tell whether I've not got the audio levels set correctly, or if I've got my audio output set incorrectly, but I do find I usually end up recording on the quiet side.

Thanks. I'll do some mucking around. From the looks of things the autolevel seems to err on the quiet side, but I'd much prefer stonkingly loud to a little quiet. Especially when it comes to engines.

I don't think I've actually ever used the auto-level. Perhaps I should try it.
